A picture of a girl drinking water from a puddle shocks Argentina

The hardship of the image has shocked the Internet, showing the deprivation that members of the Guarani community in the country suffer.

According to Misiones Online, a local newspaper, the image was taken by a journalist during a heatwave in the center of the city of Posadas. The girl was one of many children that beg on the streets for money in this part of Argentina. The reporter was driving along one of the biggest avenues in the village when he stopped at a traffic light. He then witnessed the crude scene and decided to take a picture hoping that it could make a difference.

He shared it with other colleagues and one of them decided to post it online, prompting a wave of indignation among the users. Some of the local neighbours decided to bring bottled-water and other goods to the children of the community.

The photo has been shared more than 2,000 times and put the focus on the situation of plenty of indigenous children in Argentina, who still live in conditions of extreme poverty.
