Three Billboards to denounce sexual harassment

‘Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri’ wins the most at a Golden Globes ceremony marked by the #MeeToo movement

Black was the protagonist at the Golden Globes ceremony. It was the color used by actresses and actors to denounce sexual harassment in Hollywood and show their solidarity with the #Metoo movement victims. Almost everybody present at the Beverly Hilton hotel wore a black dress or suit, to show their concern about this situation. The ever-present theme centered most of the speeches of the winners, who also focused in issues like gender pay disparity.

‘Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri’, was the big winner of the night. The drama, which depicts the story of a middle-aged woman whose daughter was murdered, won the awards to best motion picture drama, best actress (Frances McDormand), best actor in a supporting role (Sam Rockwell) and best screenplay.

‘Lady Bird’ won the best motion picture award in the category of musical or comedy, and her lead performer, Saoirse Ronan, was the winner in the best comedy actress category. Gary Oldman was the best actor by his portray of Winston Churchill in ‘Darkest Hour’. James Franco was chosen best comedy actor for his role in ‘The Disaster Artist’. The best director award went to Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro for his movie ‘The Shape of Water’.

‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, located in a dystopical future ultra-religious society, was the big winner among the television series, winning best drama and best actress (Elisabeth Moss). Oprah Winfrey won the Cecil B. DeMille award for her outstanding career.
